6th. BOFF – Bovec Outdoor Film Festival

There are floods again in Slovenia… and this and that. Let’s be optimists and say that sometime it will be better. The nature is hard on us, it is taking, but of course also giving. Bombs, bombs, bombs, every day the media bombard us with battles of some individuals, problems of the society and with football, as if it were the Saviour itself. You can go to churches, circuses or come to the 6^th Bovec Outdoor Film Festival.

Also here at the Festival you’ll be able to see a lot of battles, battles with the gravity, water, rock, speed. You’ll see battles for which you have to have guts to start them, battles where you are responsible for your own mistakes. The film repertoire includes some high quality films from all over the world, but as already last year we also left some time for the local authors. The registered films enabled us to make a bit different programme and so, this year’s novelty is a part of the programme which is intended to the younger generation of warriors. In the afternoons of the first two days of the festival the programme will include educational films (Nature and Ecology) and sports films that can be understood also by younger audience. This year there will be a small fee to pay. I hope that this won’t stop you from coming to the festival. The fees are minimal and are there to help us keep the festival. BOFF can be presented to you also with the help of some old and some new partners, I am very grateful to them and ask you to see who they are.

This year there are some changes in the programme and location: we won’t replay the winning films on the last day and this way we will gain some time to play more different films. The location of the Festival, for all projections, bookstall, photo exhibition, round table and the travelogue will be at Stergulc House. We recommend you to book the tickets in advance as the number of seats is limited. The winning films will be, as usual, re-played at different locations in Slovenia. If we were to advertise a new film we could say it’s coming the Battle of the interests, but we will call it thedebate on the topic of mountain biking in the mountainous part of Slovenia ( mountainbiking on mountain trails in Slovenia is about to be forbidden) We invited experts from the field of tourism, sport, ecology,… the host will be Tomaž Kovšca (cycler, more known as journalist at Slovenian national TV). Maybe we could say that this year’s festival focuses more on mountain-biking, why not? – no pain, no glory! The events in the Festival are also: Darko Cuder’s photo exhibition, Igor Stropnik’s travelogue Project Scandinavia, freeride work-shop, bookstall with books about mountaineering, travels, nature, etc.
A week before BOFF, together with the opening of the ski-season at Mt. Kanin, will take place also the Snow Sculptures Festival.

The films’ categories in the competition remain the same as in the previous years. As I already mentioned, new is the children matinee which is in part also in the competition category. This year there will be no sport-short category in the competition, because we listed only two films from this category to the programme. We will award audience choice, award for the best film on nature and ecology (eco-documentary), award for the best sport film and the award of the Sports association ŠD Drča for the best Slovenian film. Because lately everywhere they talk about eco, bio, organic, pristine, adrenaline, extreme, no emissions and so on, no worries we’re totally in, dude…

There will be again the competition in the making of snow sculptures and artists from near and far are coming to the highest ski-resort in Slovenia. Let’s hope that this winter will be whiter as the last one, that there will be less drought in the coming year, fewer floods and…, oops.

Vision, etc.

We present you the festival of film, sport, ecology and nature. We named it BOFF – Bovec Outdoor Film Festival, by the town where the Festival will take place. The Festival includes different events, besides the films there are also different lectures, seminars, exhibitions, competitions and workshops.

Main goal and purpose of BOFF is presenting the sport, as well as making promotion for healthy life, social gathering and giving inspiration for creativity. Most of all those who visit Bovec are also athletes and ambassadors of those sports, so the program BOFF offers should give a new aspect of sport, as well.

BOFF is international movie festival located in attractive Bovec, which is settled in north/west corner of Slovenia. Different outdoor movies, as well as short sport and documentary movies are performed, also we will display movies from nature environment and ecology. Our main goal is to offer quality repertoire of movies and side events for visitors. Our audience is mostly population with experiences from wide aspect of sports, also topics of movies screened on BOFF. More about themes and values of movies are expressed in categories and archive. Besides that the promotion of destination of excellence Bovec – The valleys of inspiration is also one of the purposes of this event. The organizer’s goal is to turn BOFF into recognizable brand and festival with tradition. To be bigger and more attractive for mainstream public is necessary to add some side events, like exhibitions, fairs, lectures, sport competitions, etc.
