Three films, four awards

The awarded films of 3rd Bovec Outdoor Film Festival are: Carstenz – Siedma hora, New Zealand South Island Circumnavigation and To ni hec.

Bovec, December 31st – Third edition of Bovec Outdoor Fim Festival wrapped up yesterday night in Bovec cultural hall with award presentations.

The jury award in category Nature and environment has been awarded to Carstenz – Siedma hora (2008) by Slovak filmmaker Pavol Barabaš. The decision has been also matched by public voting since the same production was also awarded the public award.

In Sport and action category the jury awarded the film New Zealand South Island Circumnavigation (2008) by British author Justine Curgenven. In this category the public award went to Slovenian film To ni hec (Not a joke, 2009) by Tomaž Šantl.

The festival crowd was 26 films in three days, of which 20 were on the competition list. The festival started on Monday with an exposition by sports photographer Peter Fettich and screening of an out of competition film. Mayor of Bovec Danijel Krivec opened the festival Tuesday night. It ended last night with the award presentation, a lecture by ultralight plane pilot Matevž Lenarčič and a set of out of competition promotional films.

The screenings were viewed by an average of approximately 200 visitors. 1150 public votes were cast.

“We are counting on the news of this festival edition reaching more international filmmakers. The call for entries for fourth edition will be out in early 2010 so we’re hoping for even more quality entries next year,” says Polona Ziherl, the BOFF program manager.

Event organizer Jan Maček also has his mind set on 2010: “We are happy with this edition and will be trying to add more side events and workshops next time. The number of films is just fine as well as the dates – so see you here in late December 2010!”

The jury awards were announced by member Marco Mosetti of Italy: “We had a hard time choosing the works to award since we had seen so many quality productions. In the end I am sure we made the right decisions. One was even backed by the public that added a Slovenian film that I also loved even if at my age I can’t have anything to do with skateboarding. The author showed the same excitement making the movie as the athletes showed on their skateboards.”

The awarded film can again be seen on the big screen on February 7th and 8th in Kinodor in Ljubljana.

The 1st Bovec Snow Sculptures Festival has been moved to late February due to warm weather.
