Le monde de Gaston Rébuffat

Le monde de Gaston Rébuffat / ERA / Gilles CHAPPAZ, Denis Steinberg / 52′ / 2008 / France
30. 12. 2011, 17:00

All through his life, the famous high mountain guide, Gaston Rébuffat has never ceased to open the doors of his “garden” to all. Books, articles, photographs, films, press clippings, lectures… Every medium was useful to relive and convey his devouring passion for the mountain – in snow, on ice or bare rock. His is a friendship with his companions of the cord, friendship with the mountains, friendship with all Nature. He tells his story of the mountain with simplicity and humour. Precursor, visionary, Gaston was a man totally committed and, yet, he never emphasized the exploit or the struggle: among other high achievements, he was the first to climb the six northern faces of the Alps.
Director Gilles Chappaz:
After spending four years in Paris as assistant editor of L’Equipe Magazine, Gilles Chappaz divides his time between Grenoble and Chamonix, between words and images. He wrote about the great figures of skiing and mountaineering, and later devoted himself to documentary filmmaking. Child of the mountains and son of a mountain guide, Gilles shares a visceral passion for the high places with his twin brother Xavier, President of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix. Gilles graduated as a ski instructor. He then turned to journalism and worked for the French mountain magazines (Montagnes Magazine, Vertical). He was a long time editor of the Ski Français, the first French real ski magazine. He directed several award-winning mountain films, such as “René à la Jeanne”, “Les Compagnons du Vide”, “Les Conquérants de l’Inutile”, “La Cordée de Rêve” and “Sur le Fil des 4000″.
