Four generations, one sole purpose: going to the mountains in search of adventure, again and again! This is the Barmasse family of Valtournenche: mountaineers, alpinists, explorers and mountain guides on Matterhorn. It was on the “Gran Becca”, as the Val D’Aostans call the Matterhorn, that on the 17th of March 2010, spanning two generations, a father and son tied in together. Their aim was to climb the Couloir, which from Enjambée plunges for 1200 meters towards the base of the South Face of Matterhorn. An old project, attempted 24 years ago by Marco, the father, and taken up on this day by Marco and his son Hervé. A difficult route, defined by some of the greatest alpinists of the 1980s as “one of the last great projects in the Alps,” it still remained incomplete in 2010.
