Gardens in the urban areas represent economical, ecological, cultural and social challenges to the local population, because they offer space for socialising, exchange, interaction and besides that also provide food self-supply, learning possibilities and a social and cultural corrective. At the same time they again bond life with the primal experience of satisfying human needs.
In Maribor, in the time of it being the European Capital of Culture, came to life the first communal urban eco garden. In the area of Radvanje near Borova vas the inhabitants came up with the idea of a communal garden that supplies the citizens with fresh products, and besides that provides a growing space for meeting, socialising, learning and for encouraging the organisation of the community. The product is the film Green Utopia as a proof of how a utopia can become reality.
